Humidity — the most popular term when we talk about the durability and longevity of a wooden floor. The recommended relative humidity should stay between 40-60% in order for the floor to stay in best condition. However, this is not exclusive requirement for the wood surfaces in your interior but also tremendously important for our health.
Scientific studies and research has determined that 40-60%RH is also the optimum humidity for our body and immune system. Low relative humidity is a versatile culprit:
— initially causing discomfort, such as sore eyes or contact lens irritation
— longer exposure can lead to itchy skin and dermatitis
— weakens our respiratory and immune system by drying the mucous membranes in our nose, throat and bronchi due to with our natural defense mechanism is inhibited and leaves us more susceptible to airborne infections from viruses and bacteria
